Science - Heating materials

Many materials change in different ways when they are heated - Ice becomes water, water becomes steam etc.Bread becomes toast!

We changed some materials by heating them.

Like chocolate ...

and cake mix...

It was a great science lesson and we had lots of fun. Later we did a magic trick - we made all the cakes disappear!

Here are some links to science clips about how some materials change when heated.

A FIERY start to 2012!!!

Happy New Year to everyone!

This half-term we have the exciting topic of 'Fire'.
The children have already thought about the good and bad features of fire and raised some interesting questions -
  • How do fires start?
  • How do they spread?
  • Does everything burn?
  • Why is fire different colours?
  • How hot is fire?

In Science we will be looking at materials and their properties. We have aleready looked around our classroom and sorted objects into material groups.

Later we will be seeing which materials can be changed by heating and cooling.

On the children's page (above) you will find activities you can try in order to find out more about materials.
